Would have given it "5 stars", but..... This baby gives the appearance of quality throughout, much like a commercial unit. That may also explain why it's so loud, but we're dealing with residential here, Maytag. On the plus side, this magnetron tube is guaranteed for 10 years, and MT must be one of the few still offering this protection. We love the gliding tray MT uses; you can get two medium or one large and one small plate on here at a time. Cooking of everything we've tried is excellent; the sensor feature works to avoid overcooking (especially veggies). This unit replaced a less powerful GE, which was definitely quieter, but didn't last. Also, this unit followed a new Samsung that we tried but returned to Lowe's because it just felt cheap (and we had a service call even before it was installed) So....higher quality, but louder (and of course, that's subjective, depending on what you're used to) We'll keep it, however, and hope for better service life (six years on the GE, which is why we didn't get another of their units) June 11, 2012
Love it...Love it....Love it! The Maytag MMV5208WS is a fantastic over the range microwave. We've had it for three weeks now, and absolutely love it! We replaced an older countertop microwave that was decent, but took up too much counter space, and frequently tripped the fuse (requiring a trip to the basement). This Maytag was easy to install (replacing a standard range hood). It has not yet, even one time, tripped the electric fuse to our kitchen - so that problem is solved. Plus, it has freed up a tremendous amount of counter space. It's like having a brand new kitchen! The microwave itself works fantastic. It has setting for just about everything you can imagine. It can sense the food in the microwave to determine the best cooking time and settings. The baked potatoes turn out perfect...as does the popcorn. The turntable doesn't turn at all, but kind of moves around the bottom of the cooking space - novel, but it works, preventing hot spots from burning any particular point of the food. Product should serve us well It Has worked well so far with everything except the popcorn. Popcorn does not cook fully. It only cooks a third to a half of the corn in the bag. I need to double the time Of the popcorn program. So that means I have to stand around and watch it. Otherwise I like the microwave. I like the temperatures. it has cooked potatoes very well and other things that I have tried have come out well. I like not being tied to a round surface the rectangle is great! I do not like the arrangement of the features as well as my last microwave. I could press the one button and get a minute I could press the two button and get two minutes on up to six minutes. some of the use instructions although they are doable, are a little confusing to me as I have to consult the chart over and over and over. But they do work when I use them correctly. However the reheat often overcooks. Overall I like it. May 4, 2013
Beautiful microwave! Microwave is simply beautiful! The stainless interior makes it even classier! The LED readout is amber in color which is very attractive. All you have to do is push a button and it will scroll the instructions in regard to using that feature. The popcorn feature works well for me. I have read other reviews where this feature didn't pop the entire contents of the bag, but that person probably was using old product. The range light is at the back of the microwave and doesn't light the front of the stove very well, but then if they put it in front it wouldn't light the back of the stove. The vent is right over the top of the cooking area where it should be. I simply love the capacity and the fact that you can use 10x13 baking dishes with the rectangular turntable. Too bad no one came up with that design years ago! It has a "keep warm" feature that I'm sure I will be using a lot when cooking large meals. If you use your microwave to cook vegetables and the rest of your dinner isn't quite ready, then you can use this feature to keep the food warm for up to 60 minutes. You can also adjust the time for this. The vent fan is very noisy when used on high, so that will be something to work on for future designs. Overall, I love my new microwave! October 21, 2012
Excellant Product This microwave is the best I bar none! It has so many great features they can't all be listed. It is very easy to keep clean with the stainles steel interior, and I just love the tray movement. No more trying to get the tray to line up with the turning mechanism. I can put any size dish or bowl in it to reheat, and there is no problem with it fitting. I also use it for defrosting, and I use to have to cut the package down to fit. well~~ that is NO MORE!!!! It also has a metal rack that works out great when u have a lot of items to reheat. It gives you extra room for more dishes at 1 time so your whole meal is hot at the same time. The exhaust fan has 4 levels and also has a nite light as well as light to cook with. The filter is can be washed in the dishwasher. I repeat~~I LOVE IT!! October 27, 2011
Loud, large, lementable. Would return it if possible, can't wait to buy a new one This unit is so loud, that a normal conversation can not take place in its vacinity. Although the fan & light are centered over my cooktop. The effeciency of both are inadequte and poor offering little in the way of performance. The fan exhaust is poor, the front of the unit fill with condensation even when using a low simmer on my cooktop. The demensions of this unit extends approx 5" beyond the top cabnits, leaving an "oversized/commercial" feel. To turn the "fan" off, you need to cycle through the 4 speeds, rather than having it's own off/on speed. Controls are cumbersome & not applicable for my uses. Inside capacity is large and performance of cooking is normal. May 31, 2013
I can fit a large size lasagna in the microwave while its in the caserole dish. Cool! Don't get me wrong. I don't think that any product is persfect but this microwave is pretty darn cool. Because it doesn't have the standard spinny tray inside and it's been fitted with this rectangle tray that moves around in the box with out rotating, you can fit some reather large things in it to heat that otherwise would never have been able to fit before. I'm not saying that there are not ways around microwaving larger things, but I don't have to cut things up and put them in the microwave in seperate loads any more. This made the whole purchase worth it to me. I would like to see better internal visibility while running and I wish the light on the bottom hadn't burned out in less than a year. But if those are my only complaints I shouldnt be doing so. I bought the stainless steel version and still like how it looks. I do wish that I didn't have to press stop to silence the annoying reminder beeps that occur every minute or so after it is done cooking something though. October 21, 2011
The microwave cooks slower than Samsung of similar size I bought the unit because it seemed to be more soild than compareable microwaves. The controls are slightly more complicated to use when compared to similar units. In some casses it takes more steps to do the same cooking task. The cooking cycle fan is much louder than compareable units. May 12, 2013
