ENERGY STAR® Qualified

1/3 HP PSC Motor

Permanent split capacitor motor that runs at a higher power factor thus giving better performance. It also delivers lower heat build-up, lower operating costs and a smoother, quieter operation.

Additional Features

800 RPM Spin Speed

A spin speed of up to 800 RPM at the end of the wash cycle removes more moisture from the load, resulting in faster drying.

Based on the Consortium for Energy Efficiency qualified product listings--with Tier III being the most efficient. This model features advanced water & energy savings and may qualify for rebates from local utility companies.

Deep Clean Option

Centennial® EcoConserve™ Top Load Washer with Low Water Wash 4.1 5 1139 1139
Mystery soil and loud Washer deposits mysterious oily crud on clothes about once per month. This is despite using the cleaning cycle regularly. Also, the unit is loud. October 31, 2013
Disappointed in Maytag design, performance, and dependability Should have gotten refund and bought some other top load model. The automatic level feature does not perform well, does not completely cover clothing. I put detergent and let it agitate 1st cycle then raise lid insert laundry and cause it to put next level of water. Really bad design. Had a recent problem, the agitator was on during initial water fill and water level continued to point of overflow. Looked at diagram and location of automatic level sensor which is actually the connected to the temperature dial. Disassembled the back panel of the machine and disconneceted to wiring harness, then reconnected it. Reassembled and tried the machine again, it worked. So, don't know what caused problem. Otherwise the price of that small part is nearly $100. Noticed part made in Mexico. Really disaapointed, maybe class action suit should be considered.... I would venture to guess that more than 50% of us who purchased the Centennial are displease but don't really have any options. December 25, 2011
Nothing good to say about this washer!!! Have had the machine for 6 months. After using it the first time, I had my doubts. Didn't like it because I can't open the lid without it starting the wash cycle all over again. The rubber start button would go inside and not come back out when pushed (lightly). Makes strange noises and my dog stands and barks at it (yes, it was balanced when delivered). Recently, the spin cycle stopped working and left water in the machine and in my clothes. Can't wash many towels or heavy loads (even on bulky) and get them clean. By the time I buy special detergent; a load of clothes starts over on the wash cycle 2-3 times; and I can only wash small-medium loads; I'm spending more money using this machine than saving. Tomorrow, a repair man from the store where I bought the machine will be coming to check it out. I was told it is left up to Maytag if I get a replacement? I don't like this machine and I'm on disability. I can't afford to buy another one (after only 6 months, I shouldn't have to). Leaving for the laundrymat with soaked clothes. February 2, 2012
Wish I read reviews before buying! I needed to replace the extra large Sears Kenmore washer that I had for 20 years and thought about purchasing Maytag as I had grown up seeing commercials with the Maytag man...thinking that it was a higher end machine. Initially I loved the open drum/no agitator machine. I first stared to notice problems when my kids' race clothes from cross-country were not getting clean after multiple washes. Plus, I thought I was the only one who thought the wash cycle took forever. Then the start button that locks the lid that won't unlock is so annoying! I told my husband I wanted to remove the locking hook, but it is connected to an electrical connection to start the machine so there is no way around it. Now after exactly 1 year from purchase it will not spin or complete the cycle to "done". Right after the 1 year warranty has expired!!! Now I have to pay for a service call for a machine that was purchased 1 year ago. I am not happy. January 7, 2012
Worst washer I have ever owned This washer was purchased for me and my wife as a gift. we have owned it for almost two years. in the time that we have had it i have had to have it repaired 3 times because the drive belt keeps falling off and destroying a pulley. it is extremely loud and has never cleaned clothing that are actually dirty. all in all I think that i may replace this with a traditional washer as the these"HE" washers don't seem to do the job they were designed for. here is what I left for customer service "the quality of this machine is deplorable. replacement parts are expensive and still made out of plastic so they will do the same thing. in addition this washer cannot even clean the laundry when it does work and i commonly have to run the washer two or three times before the water stops being filthy. go back to using metal parts and abandon the "HE" craze i never had this issue with the 20 year old maytag my parents used to have." Sorry I bought this one...I hate it! Oh yeay, It takes half the water, BUT, the clothes do not get clean. So I tried putting in half the amount of clothes...they still come out smelly and wrinkled, plus the low water level causes an action grinding of the clothes against each other, and I have found this tends to wear and stretch them out faster. So I thought, SURELY they have allowed an option to set the water level to your choosing? NOPE! SADLY, I looked and I could not find an OPTION to choose to add moreto the water lever for a fuller tank... Now that I spent the money... I feel STUCK with a very expensive clothes grinder. I honestly hate this washer. SO- if a person puts in half the amount of clothes and does twice as many loads of laundry, have you REALLY saved anything at all? Nope, Twice the time spent, you end up using more laundry soap, and in the end...more water for the same amount as a normal top loader that holds more water... This is my opinion... November 22, 2011
Fabulous product! Our 12 1/2 year old washer started dying the other day so I went on line looking for a replacement. After looking in several stores, we wound up in LOWES. The salesman, Mike, was great! I had written down several model #'s and he took me right to them to compare each. As soon as we saw this Maytag, it was love at first sight. The size was perfect and we loved all the features. We did our first super-sized load yesterday, consisting of a double-load of towels, wash cloths, some regular clothes, etc. and a set of sheets. It was amazing! I have never seen clothes come out of a washer so clean and nearly dry. The 2nd load consisted of heavy dark clothes, including jeans and sweat pants, socks, underwear, etc. These also came out beautiful!!!!! I can't understand what some of the other reviewers are complaining about!!!!! This is the best washer we've had so far. I love the fact that it doesn't have an agitator! It's great and I highly recommend it!!!!! It takes a few minutes to get used to, but that's like anything new! March 29, 2012
Worst appliance I every owned This machine did not work from the start. Wouldn't drain and start button broke. Rubber start button stays in even after repaired. New hub was installed 1st month I owned it and 8 months later I have the same issue. Waiting for another repair and now more multiple trips to the local laundrromat. Machine is noisy and does not get clothes clean. It leaves bleach on the next load of clothes and has ruined a load of clothes because of it. I don't like that I cannot add an article after machine is started, if you try to do so, it will drain all the water and you have to restart the cyle. It leave spots on my darks. It does not spin all the water out of the clothes at the end of the cycle. You have no choice for spin cycles. It fills full even if you want it to rinse and spin a few articles. It does not conserve water, rather wastes it. I have purchase used machines that work better than this one. My 12 year old washer worked better than this one. January 30, 2012
