Range Buying Guide 2025: How to Choose
The right range can help make meal prep a breeze, and knowing your options makes the shopping journey easier. Zero in on the best range for your kitchen with recommendations on the top-rated gas, electric, convection and double-oven ranges from Maytag brand.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A RANGE
Ranges are available in a wide variety of types and configurations with a unique combination of features sets, sizes, colors and finishes to take into account. When choosing a range, start by narrowing down your options based on the size constraints of your kitchen.
Next, consider your kitchen’s aesthetic and your family’s baking and cooking routines to determine which capacity, configuration, feature set, color and finish best suit your space.
Range Types
Ranges are most commonly available in electric, gas or dual fuel varieties. While gas ranges have a gas cooktop and oven, and electric ranges feature an electric cooktop and oven, dual fuel ranges feature a gas cooktop and electric oven to combine the strengths of both range types.
A kitchen range can be freestanding, with finished sides that allow it to stand alone, or slide-in, which puts all of the controls in the front for a premium look and feel.

Gas Ranges
Gas ranges are fueled by natural gas and require a dedicated gas line for installation. Because they use an open flame to cook food, the ovens on these models typically preheat quickly, while the cooktop allows instant temperature adjustments, making it easy to move between heat levels.
Shop Maytag® Gas Ranges
Maytag® gas ranges offer dependable cooking performance and allow you to cook the way you want. With features on select gas ranges like the Power™ Burner that allows for a slow, even saute and the intense heat for a seared, juicy steak, you can tackle just about any recipe on hand.

Electric Ranges
If cleanup is your main concern, consider an electric range with a smooth, ceramic glass cooktop surface that easily wipes clean. These ranges cook food using electric heating elements. The cooktop works effectively for activities like frying, boiling and simmering, while the electric heat in the oven helps deliver nicely browned results.
Some electric ranges use induction technology on the cooktop, which uses electromagnetism to heat compatible cookware. This heating method basically turns cookware into its own heat source. The electromagnetic heating element allows for speedy temperature changes, which typically leads to faster boiling compared to traditional electric models.

Shop Maytag® Electric Ranges
Select electric ranges from Maytag brand are available with the Precision Cooking™ System that uses sensor heating to help ensure each meal is cooked evenly or Variable Broil which brings the best results out of broiling with just the right temperatures for quick-cooking tasty meals.
Convection Oven Ranges
Convection oven ranges utilize a fan and exhaust system inside the oven cavity to circulate hot air around your food. These options are ideal for multi-rack cooking and creating a crispy, browned result similar to air frying.
Shop Maytag® Convection Oven Ranges
For fast baking and roasting, Maytag® electric and gas ranges with True Convection with Third Element use a powerful third heating element and a sturdy fan to circulate even temperature for faster baking and roasting. This can be useful when making cookies and pastries; juicy, well-browned roasts; and flavorful caramelized vegetables.

Double-Oven Ranges
Double oven ranges offer additional flexibility and cooking space to help you get a multicourse meal on the table. Each oven cavity has its own temperature controls, so you can broil a casserole in one while slow-roasting a turkey in the other.
Shop Maytag® Double Oven Ranges
No matter how big the meal, double oven gas and electric ranges from Maytag brand can get the job done with ease. With features on select Maytag® ranges like Power Preheat that lets you enjoy dinner faster, with juicy flavor every time, or the 8,000-BTU Oval Burner that helps ensure even heating when you’re cooking with oversized pots and pans, you can finish making dinner and get on with your evening.

Range Sizes
Range sizes are determined by two separate measures: dimensions and capacity. Standard ranges are typically 30 inches wide, around 25-27 inches deep (not including handles and knobs) and 36 inches tall (not including the control panel), but you can find stoves in both small and large capacities that vary.
A range with larger dimensions may have more room inside the oven cavity, and vice versa, with capacity ranging anywhere from around 2.3-6.3 cubic feet for single ovens and 5.9-7.3 cubic feet for double ovens.
WHAT SIZE RANGE DO I NEED?
When choosing the right sized range for you, consider the size and layout of your kitchen. For smaller kitchens, consider a compact or small-space stove. If you have room to spare, a larger, commercial-style range might be the right fit for you.
If you’re replacing your current range, you should also consider its size when making an upgrade. Replacing it with a similar sized model is often an easier option, as it won’t require you to alter the cutout in your cabinetry for installation.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR A NEW RANGE
Be sure to take precise measurements of your cabinet cutout before bringing home a new range.
To find your cutout’s dimensions, use a measuring tape to measure the width of the cabinet cutout at its narrowest part, then measure the depth from the wall to the front edge of the cabinet, excluding the cabinet hinge and door.
Next, measure the height of the cutout from the floor to the top of the countertop in several locations to ensure the floor is level.
Lastly, measure your space in front of the range to check that there’s at least 40 inches of open space in front of the range and 48-60 inches between the range and other appliances, then measure to make sure you have around 2 to 2.5 feet above the range.

From gas or electric to single or double oven, range models offer a unique spectrum of cooking features to help get dinner on the table. Consider what’s most important to you in a range.

BLACK RANGES: Black appliances, like these Maytag® ranges, can provide your kitchen with a contemporary, sophisticated look that contrasts well with white cabinetry.
STAINLESS STEEL RANGES: Stainless steel options are well suited to modern or traditional spaces, giving the kitchen an elevated feel.

Whatever your style, be sure to consider existing kitchen appliances and how your new range color may impact the overall look of your kitchen. Mixed and matched appliance colors can complement each other well, but appliances with similar colors from different brands may clash.
