What are standard wall oven sizes?

Standard wall oven sizes typically run 24, 27 or 30 inches wide. Depth and height remain about the same regardless of width. Most single wall ovens are 27 to 29 inches high. Wall oven depths generally range from 22 to 24 inches to fit within standard cabinets, or 27 total inches when including handles and doors.

Note that these measurements reflect the size cutout you’ll need for installation. The units themselves will be slightly smaller in order to fit inside. For example, a wall oven that requires a 30-inch width cutout may measure around 28 ½ inches wide. Individual models can vary so be sure to consult the manufacturer’s recommended cutout dimensions or installation guide before choosing a wall oven.

What are standard double wall oven dimensions?

Double wall ovens are generally available in the same standard widths of 24, 27 and 30 inches. Depths will also run from 22-24 inches or 27 inches including door and handle widths. The main dimension difference will be double wall oven height which is typically just over 50 inches.

What are standard wall oven measurements for wall oven microwave combos?

Wall oven microwave combos tend to stick with standard widths of 24, 27 and 30 inches. Like single and double wall ovens, they are designed to be installed in standard cabinets with 22-24 inches of depth, or around 27 including handles and doors. Height generally falls between 40 and 44 inches depending on oven and microwave capacities.

27 inch models usually require cabinet cutout heights of just over 41 inches while 30 inch models can need closer to 43 inches of height.

I am thinking of replacing my current wall oven. Have single or double wall oven sizes changed much over the years?

Standard wall oven widths and depths are based on standard cabinet sizes and so have remained fairly steady over the recent decades. If you have a model that is roughly 30 years old or more, it may be narrower than more recent wall oven designs. The greatest variation tends to be double or combination wall oven heights as trends in this category have changed over time.

Some older wall oven models may feature a smaller oven on top of a standard sized oven or a broiler unit instead of a full second oven. Many of today’s models tend to feature two equally-sized ovens and so may require cabinet cutout height modifications if replacing an older model.

How can I be sure my new wall oven will fit in my current space?

Always refer to the manufacturer’s specifications to ensure the right fit. If you don’t have details for your existing wall oven, it’s best to remove it and measure the cabinet opening. If your opening is not a perfect fit for today’s wall oven sizes, there are a few options you can explore.

WALL OVEN CABINET DIMENSIONS TOO LARGE

If your cabinet opening is an inch or so larger than the requirements for the new wall oven you’re eyeing, a trim kit may help fill minor gaps.

WALL OVEN CABINET MEASUREMENTS TOO SMALL

A cabinet opening that is too small will require cabinet modifications and can be a pricier option. It may be a better choice to opt for a smaller wall oven size if you want to avoid renovations.

How do I measure my current wall oven cabinet dimensions and kitchen space?

It’s best to remove your current wall oven and measure the width, height and depth of your empty cabinet cut out to ensure accuracy. You may find that your cabinets are not a perfect fit for the model you’re considering. Just keep in mind that a tighter fit is ideal if you have several options to choose from. Learn more about different types of wall ovens.

WIDTH (W)

Measure the width from the left inside cabinet edge to the right inside cabinet edge using a tape measure and record this number.

DEPTH (D)

Measure and record the distance from the back of the opening to the front of your cabinet cutout. Don’t forget that oven doors and handles will stick out a few inches past the cabinet.

HEIGHT (H)

Lastly, check the distance between the top of the cabinet opening and the bottom of the cabinet opening.

DOOR CLEARANCE (C)

An open door will add about 24 inches to the overall depth. You’ll also want to have about 42-48 inches of clearance in front of your wall oven to comfortably load and unload dishes. This is especially important if you have a galley kitchen or an island across from your wall oven.

Note: Always reference the manufacturer's cut-out dimensions for your model to ensure correct installation.

What else should I consider before purchasing a wall oven?

CAPACITY

Think about how much cooking space you need. Single wall oven capacities usually start at around 2 to 3.5 cubic feet of cooking space for 24-inch-wide models. If you’re looking to replace a full-sized kitchen range, opt for 27- or 30-inch wall ovens with 4 to 5 cubic feet of capacity.

Since double wall ovens are essentially two single wall ovens that share a single control panel, you’ll typically find double the overall cooking capacity. 24-inch double wall ovens usually offer 4-7 combined cubic feet of capacity while 27- and 30-inch models can give you as much as 8 and 10 cubic feet of combined cooking space.

Most wall oven microwave combinations feature a single oven with the typical capacity of around 4 to 5 cubic feet and a microwave with just under 1½ cubic feet.

FUEL TYPE

Choose between gas or electric wall ovens so you can prepare your food just the way you like it. Gas ovens may provide more responsive heat adjustments while electric ovens can provide more consistent heat. Make sure you have the right setup for your preferred fuel type before you start shopping. If you need help deciding which one is right for you, learn more with our guide to gas vs electric.
