4 Steps to Measure Space Needed for YOUR Washer and Dryer

Measurements shown below are examples based on Maytag® front load washer and dryer models MHW8630H & MED8630H. If you’re ready, shop our collection of matching front load dryers to your favorite Maytag washer.

Step 1: Settle on a Setup

Decide which washer and dryer setup will work best for your space. Front load laundry pairs can be placed side-by-side, with or without pedestals, or stacked on top of each other. Top load laundry pairs need to be placed side-by-side.

Step 2: Measure Height, Width and Depth of your washer and dryer

Using your washer and dryer dimensions and the additional space considerations as detailed in Step 3, determine the total amount of space you’ll need. Measurements shown below are examples based on Maytag® front load washer and dryer models MHW8630H & MED8630H.

Step 3: Consider Additional Space Needed

Add roughly 4' for easy loading/unloading. In a closet, ensure the unit doors clear the closet doorway.

TO MINIMIZE NOISE

Add 1" of space on each side of the units: top, sides and between the pair.

ABOVE THE WASHER

Add extra space for easy opening/closing (for top load only).

Step 4: Map Out a Path

Figure out the best path of entry: from your home entrance, through each hall and any doorway. Then measure the width of those spaces to ensure the unit will make it through.
